Captiono
How it works

From raw footage to a finished, captioned video

Every step below happens in your browser tab — no accounts, no upload queue, no waiting on a server. Here's exactly what happens at each stage.

1. Upload your media

Drag in a video or audio file — MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, MP3, WAV, and other common formats all work. The file is loaded directly into your browser tab. It never leaves your device, and there's nothing to wait for on a remote server.

2. Captions are generated automatically

When you're ready, Captiono extracts just the audio track and securely generates a transcript with word-level timestamps — your video file itself is never sent anywhere. Most short clips are ready in well under a minute.

3. Edit the transcript

Automatic transcription is fast, but it's not always perfect — names, jargon, and background noise can trip it up. Click into any word to fix it, split a long segment into two, or merge two short ones into one. Timing adjusts automatically as you edit.

4. Choose a style

Pick a starting template — bold social captions, a quiet minimal look, karaoke-style word fills, and dozens more — then make it yours. Adjust the font, colors, outline, shadow, background box, spacing, and animation independently.

5. Position it on the frame

Drag the caption box anywhere on the video preview. Snapping guides appear as you move it, so it's easy to center captions or tuck them away from a platform's built-in UI, like the like and comment buttons on vertical video.

6. Preview in real time

Scrub through your video with captions rendered live, at the exact aspect ratio you plan to export — 9:16 for Shorts and Reels, 16:9 for YouTube, 1:1 or 4:5 for feed posts. What you see in the preview is what you'll get in the final file.

7. Render your video

When everything looks right, start the render. Your captions are burned directly into the video frame-by-frame, on your device, using the same engine that powers the live preview — so there are no surprises between preview and output.

8. Download everything

Download your finished MP4, plus the SRT and VTT subtitle files and a plain-text transcript, generated from the same source. No watermark, no account, and no expiring links — the files are yours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?+

No. Captiono runs entirely in your browser. You can optionally install it as an app for a full-screen experience, but it works the same either way.

How long does captioning take?+

Most clips are transcribed in well under a minute. Longer videos take proportionally longer, and rendering time depends on your device's hardware.

Can I re-edit captions after I've styled them?+

Yes. You can jump back to the transcript at any point, fix a word, or adjust timing, and your styling and positioning stay exactly as you left them.

What if I want a different look for a video I already captioned?+

Switch templates at any time — your transcript and timing stay untouched, only the visual style changes, so you can try several looks quickly.

Your captions are one upload away

No sign-up. No watermark. Your video stays on your device. Just better captions, in minutes.
