Captions shouldn't require an upload
Captiono exists because adding good-looking, accurate captions to a video used to mean choosing between a clunky desktop app, a subscription tool that watermarks your export, or sending your footage to someone else's server and waiting. We wanted something that just works, in a browser tab, and stays on your machine the whole time.
What we're building
Captiono is a caption and subtitle editor built in the browser. Upload a video or audio file, and its audio is transcribed automatically with word-level timing. From there, you can fix any mistakes, choose from dozens of caption styles, drag your captions anywhere on the frame, and export a finished video — with your video file itself never leaving your device.
We built it for the people who caption things constantly: short-form creators turning long videos into clips, podcasters who need a quick transcript alongside their captions, and anyone who's tired of captioning tools that treat privacy and pricing as an afterthought. Styling and rendering happen entirely on your device — the browser has gotten powerful enough for real video processing locally — and only the audio track, never the video itself, is sent anywhere, and only to generate your captions.
Captiono is under active development. We're continuing to add templates, fonts, languages, and export options based on what creators actually ask for.
What we care about
Privacy by default
Your footage is often unfinished, unpublished, or simply personal. It shouldn't have to travel anywhere just to get captioned — so it doesn't. Styling, positioning, and export all happen on your own device; only the extracted audio is sent off, and only to generate the transcript.
Fast, not fussy
We built Captiono to fit into a real editing workflow — open a tab, drop in a clip, and have captioned footage back in minutes, without signing up for anything.
Genuinely customizable
Auto-generated captions shouldn't all look the same. We put real effort into making dozens of templates and fonts that are actually different from each other, not palette swaps of one style.
No catch
No watermark, no per-minute meter counting down, no feature locked behind a paywall you find out about at export time. What you see in the editor is what you get.
